Meet, William Tyler Ezzell! He is joining us for The Hunchback of Notre Dame June 30, 2022 - July 10, 2022!

What is your favorite song in this show and why?

My favorite song is "Out There" because it is so masterfully constructed. The melody, the lyrics, the pacing all work together to vividly express the characters intense hearing to be free and to belong. What are more relatable concepts than a desire for autonomy and belonging?

What have you loved so far about working with SART?

What I love most about working with SART is that the organization has twin commitments to inclusivity and excellence in everything it produces.

Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?

I play the villain in this production: Frollo. Frollo is one of my "favorite" villains because I think his humanity is what makes him simultaneously so believable and so frightening.

How did you get into theatre?

I got into theatre via both of my parents, who did community theatre together when I was a little boy.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?

I really love the amazing food and live entertainment offerings in WNC.

What about this production are you the most excited about?

The director's amazingly inventive take on this production and his dedication to accessibility and inclusion, and the unfathomably creative ways he is bringing all that to fruition are simply thrilling to witness.

What’s your favorite part about performing?

Breathing life into words on a page so that you can tell a story in a way that is accessible to people. I feel that creating change by telling stories is my deep purpose.

Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?

My wife and I will be costuming The Wedding Singer, SART's next show. Then I will be in The Book of Will and Assassins at HART in Waynesville later this season.

Biography

William Tyler Ezzell is a visual artist, musician, and actor who thoroughly loves creating and performing in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Will had the pleasure of working for SART first in 2019’s "Miracle in Bedford Falls" and then in 2020’s "Church Basement Ladies", where he appeared as Pastor Gunderson. During the "virtual season" of 2020-2021, he appeared as one of the artists featured in SART's "Virtually, Yours" concert series, the "Love, SART" Valentine's show (with his wife Kyrstin), and the "How Great Thou Art" gospel concert. When the theatre once again opened its doors last summer, Will returned to the Owen stage with SART's stellar production of "First Date." Will is thrilled to join this intrepid organization once again, performing and creating, working as a director and costumer this season as well. He wishes to thank his wife Kyrstin for her patience and compassion, and the creative & administrative team at Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre for creating a culture of inclusion, connection, and joy in which to work.
