The Wedding Singer is showing July 27-31! We reached out to Jack Scharrer, to find out more about them and what working on this fun production has been like!
What is your favorite song in this show and why?
Saturday Night In The City! It’s a killer Act 1 finale and it’s an absolute blast to dance it out with the rest of the company!
What have you loved so far about working with SART?
The people - everybody at SART has been so exceptionally kind and welcoming! Doing what you love surrounded by people you enjoy makes getting up and going to work each day so easy.
Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?
Which one?! As a member of the Ensemble of this production, I get to jump between a multitude of characters to fill out the story. I really love having the freedom to create whatever story I want for my character a dozen or so different times each night!
How did you get into theatre?
I was totally obsessed with the movie version of The Wizard Of Oz, to the point that I knew every line and lyric and would come home from preschool and watch it every day. I think my parents needed to find a place where I could channel all of my musical and theatrical energy, so I started doing summer camps and grew up performing at a local community theatre as much as I possibly could. In high school I decided theatre as an extracurricular wasn’t enough and wanted to make a career out of it, so I studied Musical Theatre and Dance at Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI and here I am!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
I’m originally from Minnesota, so I’ve really enjoyed just being in and around the beautiful mountains in the area.
What about this production are you the most excited about?
I love to dance, and this production has definitely gotten me moving and shaking (and sweating) a lot! Big shout out to our choreographer Alana for creating such fantastic production numbers!
What’s your favorite part about performing?
Entertaining an audience is absolutely my favorite part, I love being able to see and hear how much joy a performance can bring to somebody! I’m definitely guilty of watching the audience watch the show whenever I can.
Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?
Not that I can officially announce to the general public ;)! You can keep up with me on Instagram @jack.scharrer or at www.jackscharrer.com for updates!
