Updated: May 24, 2022

Sisters of Swing is showing May 19-29, 2022! The story of the Andrews sisters. This musical follows the Andrews sisters from their early days on the road through their rise as recording stars to entertaining American GI’s overseas. Featuring songs such as "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." This show is guaranteed to knock your socks off. We reached out to actor Lara Hollaway to find out more about her and her experience working on this fun production!

What’s your favorite number in this production? Why?

I love singing "Near You" with Fancy and Mandy. The harmonies are gorgeous and I really enjoy digging into the scene, which shows the dynamics of what it would REALLY be like to work with your sisters. The dialogue is intermixed with the music, and we are having a great time portraying this scene.

What do you love about working with SART?

The productions at SART are top-notch. Every single person shows up on day one ready to dig in and work hard, and I so appreciate the incredible talent that the company brings in with each production. From the creative team to the designers, musicians, and actors. It's joy-inspiring to work with everyone involved.

How did you get into theatre?

I got my start in professional theatre at age 11 when I was chosen out of several hundred little girls as the understudy to Annie with Fannie Flagg as Miss Hannigan and Robert Alda as Daddy Warbucks in Birmingham, Alabama. I learned so much from those two.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?

There is so much to do in Asheville, but I think my favorites are the activities outdoors. Snowboarding in the winter, whitewater rafting, boating on the lake, and hiking to waterfalls in the summer. Follow it up with friends and Whit's, and I'm a happy girl.

What about this production are you the most excited about?

My favorite aspect of theatre, in general, is creating something new with a cast of talented performers, and I've been incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to go through that process with the terrific cast and creative team of Sisters of Swing.

What’s your favorite part about performing?

Making an audience laugh, and seeing them walking out of the theatre with big smiles on their faces.

Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?

Lara spends most of her free time these days working with US Resettlement Agencies (Lutheran Services Carolinas, World Relief, and Catholic Charities) to welcome refugees as they arrive and settle in our local communities. If you'd like to help, please reach out to these wonderful organizations to see what you can do!
