Take a journey with a disgruntled aging couple revisiting their roots in Southern Appalachia in the new play, Milestones showing at Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre June 9-19, 2022. Each twist and turn in the road leads this couple towards forgiveness and healing. Written by Gale Gooch Alexander, and set in the very mountains Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre calls home. We reached out to Milestones actor Kathy O’Connor to find out more about her and her experience working on this production.
What is your favorite line in this show and why?
I love that Sally and Frank “… smiled at anyone they thought looked like they could milk a cow.” What does someone look like that can milk a cow? That cracks me up.
Tell us about your character. What’s your favorite thing about them? What do you love about getting to portray them?
Sally has a young spirit. She wants adventure and passion. I love that she is so determined to improve her situation.
How did you get into theatre?
When I was little, my mother was a real “Mama Rose” and wanted at least one of her girls to be up in the spotlight. I went along for awhile, but lost interest during my college years. Since moving South 12 years ago, I reconnected with my delight in performance.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the area?
Hard to choose. Has to be hanging out with my pooch, Mary, she’s very entertaining.
What about this production are you the most excited about?
What a cast! Yowza!
What’s your favorite part about performing?
Theatre folks are cool!
Do you have any upcoming projects we should check out?
The Book of Will at HART later this summer.
